Updates from Court: Assin North MP’s case.
At the last adjourned date, the trial Judge- Justice Kwasi Boakye had indicated his readiness to proceed with the hearing of the substantive case barring any unforeseen emergencies.
Lawyer Abraham Amaliba enquired whether the first Respondent was served with the processes of his withdrawal application as the law stipulates? The judge then stood the case down for 10minutes for verification from the registry and it turned out that, the court has not been able to serve the MP.
Shockingly, the trial judge ruled that the 1st Respondent has not been attending proceedings so his right to service has been waived; proceeded to strike out Lawyer Abraham Amaliba from the records as Counsel for the 1st Respondent and subsequently ruled to struck out the stay of proceedings application brought at the instance of Hon Quayson Jnr.
Subsequently, the trial judge adjourned today’s proceedings to the 14th day of July 2021, for ruling on the substantive case and added that the 1st Respondent, Hon James Gyakye Quayson Jnr can file his address if he so wishes.
