The political battle in Assin North is nearing its peak with a sensational change in the dynamics on who gets the nod as the District Chief Executive (DCE) of the District.
The already heated contest welcome new faces, Patrick Affum-Ampomah, Agnes Peggy Nyarko, Agyensaim Lord Listowel and John Wesley Dankwah.
When it comes to polical leadership in the history of NPP as a party Mr. Patrick Affum-Ampomah and Madam Agnes Peggy Nyarko needs no introduction within the New Patriotic Party in Assin North District.
Hon. Patrick Affum-Ampomah who is one of the contestants, over the years has been the Assembly Member for Assin Bereku Yentumeka Dadiesoaba and the Presiding Member for Assin North District as well.
Madam Agnes Peggy Nyarko is also the current women’s organizer for the New Patriotic Party in Assin North Constituency.
The two other contestants, Agyensaim Lord Listowel and John Wesley Dankwah are yet to introduce themselves to the entire people of Assin North their political ambitions and they will not make any impacts when it comes to the party’s decision on who gets the nod.
Although Madam Agnes Peggy Nyarko has served well as women’s organizer, the leadership of the New Patriotic Party this time would thought it wise not to repeat the mistake they made during their primaries in 2020 where a section of the party supporters openly disagreed with going into the election with a woman, Hon. Abena Durowah Mensah.
However, other contestants shouldn’t take the incumbent District Chief Executive (DCE), Hon. Charles Ohene Andoh for granted since he is an influencial person and such positions are sometimes won by the kind of people you know up there.
As I always say, the NPP party leadership within Assin North District who have Assin North at heart will judge Hon. Charles Ohene Andoh by his contributions to the development of Assin North when he resumed office as DCE.
Again, his own NPP party members working with him within the Assembly will also take decisions for or against him base on how he treated them with his position.
He cannot tell what he will do when he gets the nod again but his past records, attitude and nature will either or not earn the respect of many whom he severed.
The biggest competition ahead of the incumbent DCE, Hon. Charles Ohene Andoh is none of the contestants as he may be thinking. His competition is rather the Assembly Members belonging to the National Democratic Congress (NDC).
This is because the DCE was accused of making it clear on radio during 2020 election campaign that he could not work with an opposition Member of Parliament if the people of Assin North Constituency mistakenly vote for the then NDC Parliamentary candidate, Hon. James Gyekye Quayson.
The question is, can he now work with Honorable James Gyekye Quayson to bring development to Assn North since he’s the Member of Parliament for Assin North Constituency?
After all, Hon. Charles Ohene Andoh still stands as favorite and more likely to be mentioned by the President of the Republic of Ghana, Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo as statistics shows.
The next choice for the Assin North NPP if Charles Ohene Andoh’s appointment fails, will be Hon. Patrick Affum-Ampomah. Truly, this will be decided by the Assembly Members within the District after Nana Addo has spoken.
Political pundits are playing their cards around Patrick Affum-Ampomah to take over the Assin North DCE position to cap a new era for the NPP within the constituency.
