Hearts of Oak, the Ghana Premier League champions, have booked a date with Moroccan side Wydad Casablanca in the second round qualifying of the CAF Champions League after defeating Guinean side CI Kamsar 2-0 in Accra on Sunday afternoon.
After a difficult start, Kofi Kordzi and new signing Salim Adam scored late in the game to send the Phobians through.
Hearts of Oak demonstrated why they are the GPL champions by dominating their Guinean opponents early in the game. Final passes in and around Kamsar’s 18-yard box, on the other hand, lacked enough energy to trouble the visitors.
The first half ended in a stalemate as both teams cancelled each other out to set up what would later become an Phobian victory.
The introduction of Kofi Kordzi proved crucial, as the GPL champions scored a late goal in the 83rd minute, with a well-placed free-kick beating the Kamsar goalkeeper.
On his competitive debut for Accra Hearts of Oak, Salim Adam put the game out of reach for the Phobians with a belter in injury time. He opened himself up, invited the ball, and unleashed an impressive strike to help his team qualify at the expense of Guinea’s champions.
On October 22, 2021, Accra Hearts of Oak will play Wydad Casablanca.
