The Gallant Cadres of NDC calls on Nana Akufo-Addo to quickly rescind the decision of borrowing $28 million to buy vehicles for the members of Parliament. We believe these MP have their own means to get cars for themselves just like the taxpayers teachers, nurses, doctors.
The decision is insensitive and absurd. The Minister for Finance, Mr. Ken Ofori-Atta, has presented a loan agreement for $28 million to Parliament for the purchase of 275 vehicles for members of the 8th Parliament.According to the business of the day papers presented to Parliament, the loan will be sourced from the National Investment Bank, NIB.
Based on the amount and the number of individuals involved, each MP is expected to receive over $100,000 for the purchase of a vehicle.
The Finance Committee of the House is expected to consider the loan agreement and report to the house.
Meanwhile, Parliament on Tuesday, July 6, 2021, also approved $200 million additional funds from the World Bank for Ghana’s COVID-19 response programme. The funds will be channelled towards the procurement of vaccines and other activities to strengthen the country’s health system. So what has come of the COVID-19 tax, borla tax, Gaming tax, Rent tax, Galamsey tax?
