Breaking: Samira Bawumia Rejects Allowances For Presidential Spouses, Pledges To Refund Allowances Paid Her Since 2017
The second lady Lady of the Republic of Ghana, Mrs. Samira Bawumia rejects new emoluments and pledges to refund allowances paid to her account since 2017.
There has been a lot of pressure on the New Patriotic Party and Akufo-Addo’s government after Prof. Yaa Ntiamoa-Baidu led committee took the decision to pay Presidential Spouses Allowances to the first and second ladies of Ghana.
The issue however became worse when the committee added that the payment of such allowances for the first and second Lady has to be backdated to 2017.
Mrs. Rebecca Akufo-Addo, First Lady of Ghana in consultation with her husband Nana Addo Danquah Akufo-Addo earlier today issued a statement rejecting the allowances paid to her.
The Second Lady, Mrs. Samira Bawumia, has also rejected the new emoluments approved for her by Parliament and has also promised to refund all allowances paid to her since 2017 as Mrs. Rebecca did.
“The Second Lady, Mrs. Samira Bawumia in consultation with her husband the Vice President, Dr. Mohammedu Bawumia will refund all allowances paid to her since 2017, and will not accept any monies allocated to her under the recommendations of the Prof. Yaa Ntiamoa-Baidu led committee, as approved by Parliament on 6th January 2021.
