Mohammed Nii Adjei Sowah, Chief Executive of the Accra Metropolitan Assembly (AMA), has condemned a Saturday demonstration calling for his re-election as Accra mayor.
In Jamestown, youth set fire to tyres while chanting “war” songs.
Four of the ringleaders were later arrested by police for instilling “fear and disorder.”
According to the police, preliminary investigations indicate that the youth, believed to be members of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), were protesting in anticipation of the release of the list of metropolitan, municipal, and district chief executives (MMDCEs) on Sunday, September 19.
However, in a statement issued on Saturday, Nii Adjei Sowah stated unequivocally, “I unequivocally denounce any form of disturbance in my name.”
He urged supporters to respect the President’s authority to appoint individuals of his choosing to advance his agenda.
As a result, he has pledged his full support for the President’s nominee, who is said to be former Deputy Greater Accra Region Minister Elizabeth Sackey.
