The opposition National Democratic Congress’s Central Region Deputy Communications Officer has lambasted the president of the republic, His Excellency Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo, for what he calls a wasteful presidential tour to the region.
Mr. Lawrence Kwesi Ghartey, in a statement made on October 20th, 2021, said, “The Central Regional NDC has taken notice of a two-day profligate and wasteful Presidential visit by HE. Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo, which began on Monday, October 18th, 2021 and ended on Monday, October 19th, 2021.”
While we appreciate the President of the Republic’s visit to our Region, we believe it was necessitated by the resounding welcome that greeted John Dramani Mahama during his “Thank You Your” of the Region on Friday, October 15th, 2021.
The politically expedient tour that has embarrassed the President is undeniable in Hon. Alan Kyeremateng’s last-minute negotiations with K.T Investment Company Ltd, a Chinese lubricant factory at Gomoa Akotsi, in order to rebrand and classify it under the 1D1F initiative in order to score undeserving and undeserved political points in the Gomoa East District.
This act of outright dishonesty and bad faith cannot be tolerated by a leader who is supposed to act with candor and high levels of integrity in his position. Clearly, Nana Addo’s government’s poor performance thus far has been reflected in the frigid response he has received from the good people of the Central Region.
This explains why, after President Mahama challenged him on the project accountability discussion, he couldn’t generate the confidence to speak on infrastructure.
While President John Mahama could brag about the transformational projects he delivered during his media interaction with Cape FM, which were synchronized across the region, President Akuffo Addo is still inspecting and cutting sod for fragmentary projects, which is the height of shame.
We are not shocked to learn from the President that the Komenda Sugar Factory will resume operations, despite the fact that he was unable to visit the facility to examine the condition of dilapidation.
He quickly forgot he came to inform us he had given consent for a strategic investor to take over the factory, and now we are being told that the so-called strategic investor, Park Agrotech Ghana Limited, was unable to meet the terms, and hence the government is terminating the agreement.
It is undeniable that President Akuffo Addo has purposely denied to access the $24.5 million allocated for sugarcane production because he has no intention of putting the facility into action. Where is President Akuffo Addo’s dedication, if he truly cares about the people of the Central Region?
It’s also shocking that HE Nana Akufo Addo could look the people of the Central Region in general, and Cape Coast in particular, in the eyes and say that he didn’t promise us a harbour.
We’d like to know if HE. Nana Akuffo Addo and his Vice President, Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia, are running a parallel administration or if they’re part of the same one. HE. Dr. Bawumia promised orally on August 22, 2020 that “the Central Regional capital of Cape Coast will for the first time see the construction of a harbour and an airport.”
The ruling New Patriotic Party made a clear promise to the people of the Central Region that if they were re-elected to administer the country for another four years, infrastructure would be provided to the region. We refer HE. Nana Akufo Addo to the NPP’s 2020 Manifesto, which captures this famous deceptive promise in part 4 line 6 on page 160.
Though we are shocked by this outright denial of a sacred promise, it is undeniable that deception has become a hallmark of HE. Nana Addo/administration. Bawumia’s We want to reassure him and his NPP party that misleading us will cost them dearly in the upcoming general elections.
President Akufo Addo cut the sod for the construction of the Nyankomasi Ahenkro – Assin Jakai road in Assin South. This particular road has been recorded as having been built on their infrastructure delivery tracker.
On several occasions, Hon Ntim Fourduor, MP for Assin South Constituency, has stated on national platforms that he built this same length of road and counts it as one of his accomplishments. So, why is it that the sod is being trimmed again again?
The Nana Addo-led NPP’s dishonesty and hoodwinking mentality is revealed in this.
The truth is that, like many of the president’s other broken promises over the years and across the country, the people in the area, particularly in the Assin South District, do not believe the president’s vow to build the road. This, in our opinion, is an insult to the good people of Central Region’s conscience and sensibility, as we expected the administration to follow through on its campaign promises.
It goes without saying that a non-performing and inept President is the one who travels to important regional capitals like Cape Coast to inspect engineering laboratories and workshops being built by the Ministry of Education, despite the country’s unsustainable debt hole and the unaffordable economic hardships that the Akuffo Addo government has imposed on suffering Ghanaians through the imposition of needless taxes.
President Nana Addo Dankwa Akuffo Addo was in Winneba on a fishing expedition to commission local Assembly projects as part of his tour of the central region, which has received mixed reviews.
The President dedicated a CHPS compound, a community police station, a community center, a school library, and a decorated traffic light intersection that was first proposed by Hon. Mike Hammah, a former Member of Parliament.
The renaming and re-commissioning of the Winneba roundabout as a reconciliation roundabout, with a statue of Osagyefo Dr. Kwame Nkrumah and J.B. Danquah exchanging pleasantries, was the most surprising incident during his unpatronised tour, indicating the President’s lack of appreciation for Ghana’s history.
The question is when did Osagyefo Dr. Kwame Nkrumah and J.B. Danquah meet in our history in Winneba to warrant the naming of the so-called “reconciliation roundabout”. Unfortunately, the President could not talk nor commission any job in Effutu which is so much desired by the youth of the town.
How can a whole President come to Effutu and only commission projects which have been done by a Member of Parliament. When is the NPP government going to do something for the people of Effutu.
The Akufo Addo/Bawumia government is clearly devoid of developmental initiatives, as urine has eluded the proverbial chicken, and must bear responsibility for the costly and pointless Central Region Presidential tour.”
