The former Member of Parliament for Manso-Nkwanta Constituency in the Ashanti Region on the ticket of the New Patriotic Party, Honorable Joseph Albert Quarm has said that, the government of Ghana can use community mining to fix the country.
Mr Joseph Albert Quarm said this on United Television (UTV) morning show (mpu ne mpu) today, Friday 14th May, 2021.
According to him, most countries in the world have developed through mining and it is time for us as a country to learn from them to be able to develop our motherland.
In his submission to the program on the stop galamsey discussion, he said mining is a job on it own and can never be a crime unless people who are into it operate it illegally.
Deploying military men at the galamsey centers across the country to burn excavators won’t solve the galamsey issues unless measures are put in place by the government to educate people on that, he said.
We need to get every single individual on board as a country and teach them the disadvantages of destroying our forest reserves and water bodies.
Mining companies and people who operate illegally should be given license and education so as to work according to the rules and regulations governing mining.
He added that, since most communities in his constituency are mining areas, he lost his seat as a Member of Parliament in the 2020 election just because he stood up firmly and added his voice to Nana Addo’s fight against galamsey.
Going forward as a country, Ghanaians should join hands together and support Nana Akufo-Addo’s fight against galamsey.
